Diakyne is essentially an instrumentation company aiming to provide a highly technical analytical tool primarily to the health care industry. Diakyne aims to revolutionize the analysis of trace elements in fluids with its proprietary innovation, TraceSmart. TraceSmart enables "fluids to be processed as solids". This has potential applications for more efficient and economic analysis of body fluids, such as blood and urine, in health care as well as other industrial analytical uses. Using Diakyne's unique sample collection device (SCD) with state-of-the-art LA-ICP-MS (Laser Ablation-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry) hardware, TraceSmart has the potential to analyse up to 29 elements simultaneously, with accuracies greater than 95% for the majority of elements at levels less than 20 ppb (parts per billion). Diakyne's TraceSmart technology was co-invented by Dr Hugh Herbert, an expert in forensic and geochemistry. He saw tremendous potential for using TraceSmart in health applications. The Company was founded in 2002 to help realize Dr Herbert's vision of providing a rapid, automated, cost effective means for the mass screening of aberrations in trace and essential elements and, also, toxic metals in humans and animals. Diakyne expects to launch TraceSmart in Australia in the second half of 2008. People will then have the opportunity to use TraceSmart in helping to identify possible health and nutritional disorders through a simple test using just a drop of blood.
